Montney oilfield services: contractor selection checklist
By FieldAtlas · Updated
Prepare a supplier shortlist for a Montney project with clear service scope, published base contacts and a consistent request for quotation.
Start with the project, not the basin name
The Montney spans parts of northeast British Columbia and northwest Alberta. The Canada Energy Regulator describes its importance to Canadian natural gas production and improving well performance. That industry context does not identify the contractor, equipment or crew available for your project. Start your sourcing brief with the actual project area, required service and proposed dates.
Separate the service packages
Build a separate scope for each purchasing decision: drilling, directional services, completions, fluids, transportation or waste handling, as applicable to your project. Identify the interfaces between suppliers and ask your technical team to supply the requirements. A producer developing wells is not automatically a service provider you can hire. Keep producer information separate from the contractor shortlist.
Check a published base, then confirm coverage
Trican’s official contact page lists a Fort St. John operating base and a Grande Prairie base in Clairmont. SECURE lists regional contacts for Fort St. John and Grande Prairie. Those contacts help route an inquiry; they do not prove that every service is available at each location. Ask the company to confirm the operating team, service area, current equipment and mobilization route for your dates. The profiles linked through our company directory include the selected addresses and their sources.
A practical shortlist record
For each candidate, record the company, service package, published contact source, proposed base, date of response and unresolved requirements. Ask who will handle scheduling and which items need technical clarification. Keep an alternative if availability depends on another job finishing. Do not infer spare capacity from a map marker, a news release or a recruitment advertisement.
Make supplier responses comparable
Send the same version of the brief to each candidate. Request a written statement of inclusions, exclusions, mobilization and demobilization, standby assumptions, quote validity and the conditions attached to the proposed dates. Discuss any differences before comparing totals. FieldAtlas does not publish market-wide day rates or real-time fleet availability; obtain project-specific quotations directly.
Use the result to make the next decision
A useful sourcing outcome is a documented shortlist with confirmed contacts and clearly assigned follow-ups. Resolve the technical and commercial questions with the relevant teams before making a commitment. Recheck the source and the supplier’s response when the scope or schedule changes. The RFQ and availability guides below provide a consistent starting point.
